Plachimada – Light at the end of the tunnel
Palakkad: The struggle of people of Plachimada for the right of clean drinking water and clean air is going to see the light of victory as the ruling LDF –Left Democratic Front – recommend a ban on Colas including Coca-Cola. Now the Government will take a final decision on this matter on next week’s cabinet meeting. Sources say that is only formality as the LDF meeting was conducted in presence of Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan and other top leader of KERALA LDF.
According to the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) , the cola samples collected from Palakkad contains pesticide residue 20 times more than the permitted levels. CSE Directory Sunita Narain disclosed these figures.
The struggle against the Cola Giant started on the 22nd of April 2002 by the ‘Adivaasis’ of Plachimada – a small village of Palakkad District.
