Govt to probe fraudulent real estate dealings

The Kerala Government would conduct a serious and comprehensive enquiry into the fraudulent activities of the real estate mafia in the State, Revenue Minister K P Rajendran said on Tuesday.

Replying to a submission by K C Joseph (Congress) in the Assembly, the Minister said that he had come across the 'shocking' report in a leading Malayalam daily, which after a 'sting operation', got a 'possession certificate' for five acres of land in his (Rajendran's) name from a village office in Palakkad district.

The Minister said Agali village officer P O Ayamutty had been suspended after a preliminary enquiry. Ottappalam Sub Collector Balram Singh was authorised to conduct a detailed probe and report to the district collector within 15 days.

Rajendran said the Government was contemplating a State-level investigation into the illegal activities of real estate dealers. The modalities of the probe would be discussed by the cabinet, he said.
