Palakkad's status will be guarded: Lalu

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad has assured Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan that the Centre would not do anything that would reduce the importance of the Palakkad division of Southern Railway for carving up the proposed Salem division.

According to an official release, Lalu informed Achuthanandan of this over telephone responding to the concern expressed by the latter on the issue.

Achuthanandan had come out strongly against the move to truncate Palakkad division by taking a major portion of the area under it to the Salem division.
