Jain temple to be renovated
Nirmal Kumar Sethi Jain, All-India President of the Sri Bharathavarshiya Digamber Jain Mahasabha, New Delhi, told this website's newspaper that the renovation work on the temple would begin next month.
Nirmal Kumar Sethi Jain was accompanied by a team consisting of A N Chandrakeerthi and Vinod Kumar Jain from Mysore, M C Padmaraj, Secretary of the Manikkapatnam Chandraprabha Swamy Digambera Jain Temple Trust, Mahendra Kumar Jain and Sunil Kumar Jain from Kochi, Nagendra Kumar Jain from Palakkad, and K Rajan, History lecturer from the Government Victoria college, Palakkad.
The 500-year old Jain temple attracts devotees and the daily poojas are also held here.
Nirmal Kumar Sethi Jain said that the plan of the Mahasabha was to restore the original structure.
The temple was renovated in a small way in 1962, when the structure was plastered with cement. Now it is being decided to remove these plasters so that the originality of the structure could be retained.
The statues of the various deities and carvings in the temple are also proposed to be kept safely by fixing ventilated doors at every entrance. The main deity of the temple is the eighth theerthankara of the Jain community, Chandraprabha.
Nirmal Kumar Sethi Jain said that he would meet the officials of the Archaeological Survey of India in Thrissur seeking technical assistance for the renovation of the temple.
He also said that government assistance would also be sought.
